Song, Liang(宋亮), PhD, Professor


Liang Song received his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis (with Professor Lihong V. Wang) in 2010, his M.Phil. degree in Physics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006, and his B.Eng. degree in Electronic Science and Technology from Wuhan University in 2003.

He has developed novel photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) capable of imaging optical absorption contrast in vivo with high ultrasonic resolution at large depth in scattering biological tissue. He invented section-illumination PAM and multi-focal optical-resolution PAM, which can potentially speed up the clinical translation of PAM technology for many applications, including early diagnosis of cancer and atherosclerosis, as well as functional imaging of vascular complications in diabetes. He has authored and co-authored more than 30 journal and conference articles (as in 09/2014: h-index: 13; total citations: 458), has four U.S. patents/PCT pending, and has two invited book chapters published. He serves as a regular reviewer for multiple international journals (including Optics Letters, Optics Express, Journal of Biomedical Optics, IEEE UFFC etc.) and is a member of IEEE, OSA, and SPIE.

His current research focuses on developing novel photoacoustic imaging systems and multimodality imaging technologies for the diagnosis and therapy guidance of cancer and cardiovascular atherosclerosis.


宋亮获香港中文大学物理学硕士学位、美国华盛顿大学生物医学工程博士学位。研究发展了基于超声阵列的高速,高分辨光声成像技术,实现对较深生物组织的高光学对比、高速、和高超声分辨率的成像,促进了光声成像技术向临床应用转移。20149月,已发表或合作发表期刊和会议论文30余篇(h指数:13;总引用数:458),申请美国和国际发明专利共4项,发表国际著作章节两篇。现为多种国际期刊审稿人(包括Optics Letters, Optics Express, Journal of Biomedical Optics, IEEE UFFC);IEEE,OSA,和SPIE会员。目前研究兴趣包括研究发展新的生物医学光声成像技术,并与其他光学和超声技术结合,为癌症,心血管疾病,和糖尿病的早期诊断和治疗提供有效、低成本的医疗器械。

Zheng, Wei(郑炜), PhD, Associate Professor



Wei Zheng received his B.S. degree in Optical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2003, and received his Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2011 (under the supervision of Professor Jianan Qu). He is currently an associate professor at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

His research has focused on biophotonics field including fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy and nonlinear optical microscopy. At HKUST, he developed a series of novel multi-photon excitation microscopy system to study the feasibility of noninvasive diagnosis of precancer based on the biological autofluorescence. For the first time, he discovered and demonstrated that hemoglobin can emit the Soret autofluorescence via two-photon excitation. His current study is to develop clinical tools that would aid in the understanding and the early diagnosis of various diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular conditions. He has authored and co-authored more than 20 journal and conference articles.

郑炜,2003年毕业于浙江大学电信工程专业,获工学学士学位。 2011年在香港科技大学电子及计算机工程系获博士学位。主要研究方向为生物光子学,荧光多参量显微成像技术及应用,以及非线性光学显微技术及应用等。在博士研究期间,首次发现并证明了血红蛋白在双光子激发下的自发荧光特性,实现了在活体、无损状态下,毛细血管及血液微循环的3D成像。同时,创建了一系列新型、高分辨、多功能的非线性光学显微系统,为活体组织及其细胞的生物特性研究提供有力支撑。在基于自发荧光的早期癌症诊断、心血管疾病研究等方面取得了一系列创新成果。在本领域国际知名期刊上发表SCI收录论文15篇,会议论文8篇。

Chu, Jun(储军), PhD, Associate Professor



Jun Chu received his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2009, did his postdoctoral researchin Jeanny Hardy lab at University of Massachusetts, Amherstfrom 2009 to 2010 and Michael Lin lab at Stanford University from 2010 to 2015.

He has developedseveral novel fluorescent proteins (FPs) and FP-based biosensors. 1) afar-red bimolecular fluorescence complementation system (BiFC) that works very well under cell physiological conditions, which could be used for monitoring protein-protein interaction in vivo; 2)a GFP-based caspase-3 indicator(CA-GFP) with large dynamic range, which potentially can be used for visualization of cell’s spontaneous apoptosis during embryo and neuron development; 3) a brightest far-red FP, mCardinal, providing a useful tool for optical imaging in vivo; 4)a large Stokes shift orange FP (CyOFP), which can be excited together with GFP using single wavelength, allowing simultaneous visualization of two molecular events under two photon excitation in vivo; and 5) a green FP-red FP based FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) pair (Clover3-mRuby3) with large dynamic range, which is useful for detecting weak or transient biochemical responses in living cells. He has first-authored and co-authored more than 15 journal and conference articles including one Nature Methods, 2 U.S. patents and one invited book chapter. He is a member of Biophysical Society and Protein Society.

His current research interests include engineering of novel infra-red FPs for optical imaging and red-absorbing chromoproteins for photoacoustic imaging, engineering of novel large Stokes shift FPs for two photon imaging, improving existing FRET pairs and development of FRET biosensors for kinases, and development of new optogentic tools for perturbing the signaling pathway in living cells.

储军,2009年获华中科技大学生物医学工程博士,于2009~2015年在美国麻省大学阿莫思特分校和斯坦福大学进行了博士后研究。开发了具有不同光学性能的荧光蛋白和基于荧光蛋白的探针。主要包括:1)发展了新型的可用于蛋白相互作用监测的远红色荧光互补系统;2)发展了能够用于高灵敏监测细胞凋亡过程中caspase-3活性的新探针;3)发展了目前最亮的可用于在体荧光成像的远红色荧光蛋白;4)发展了能够和GFP联合可用于双光子双色成像的大stokes位移的橙色蛋白;5)发展了具有高动态范围的FRET荧光蛋白对。已发表或合作发表了包括Nature Methods在内的15篇期刊和会议论文,申请美国专利2项,发表国际著作章节一篇。现为美国生物物理和蛋白协会会员。

Gong, Xiaojing (龚小竞), PhD, Assistant Professor 


Xiao jing GONG is an Assistant Professor at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Science. He received his Ph.D. degree in Fine Instruments and Mechanics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2007, his B.S. degree in Mechatronics from the Southeast University in 2000.

Dr.GONG joined the IBHE of SIAT in 2007. He focus in the research of Biophotonics, includes Optical Coherence Tomography/Microscopy, Photoacoustic Tomography/Microscopy, Terahertz biomedical imaging, etc. He has authored and co-authored more than 10 journal and conference articles, has 3 Chinese patents and one U.S. patent pending.

Liu, Chengbo (刘成波), PhD, Assistant Professor 


Chengbo Liu received both his Ph.D. (Advisor: Dr. Zhenxi Zhang) and Bachelor degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, each in 2012 in Biophysics and 2007 in Biomedical Engineering. During his Ph.D. training, he was very grateful to be supported by China Scholarship Council for doing two years visiting research at Duke University, supervised by Dr. Nirmala Ramanujam. His previous research has been mainly focused on tissue spectroscopy and its application in early cancer diagnosis. Now he is an assistant professor at SIAT in Dr. Song lab, working on photoacoustic imaging and translational research. He has authored 4 journal papers so far and besides work, he also enjoys many kinds of sport activities, especially soccer.

Zhang, Yang (张洋), PhD, Assistant Professor 



Yang Zhang received the B.Eng. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, in 2009. And he received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, HUST. For the first time, he developed Skull Optical Clearing Solutions (SOCS) which provides an innovative transparent cranial window for visualization of both structural and functional architecture with high spatial- temporal resolution in vivo. 

His research has focused on tissue optics field including: 1. Transport theory of photons in tissue, aim to develop new method for early diagnosis and therapeutic effect evaluation of cancer, 2. Optical clearing technique in vivo, aim to realize the observation and manipulation of neurons, glia and microvasculature in vivo. 

He has authored and co-authored more than 10 journal and conference articles, and 1 Chinese patents.


博士期间主要从事组织光学新技术新方法的研究。具体研究方向包括:1)研究光在不同生物组织中的传输规律,发展疾病诊断与疗效评估的新技术、新方法,2)发展活体组织的光透明技术,实现中枢神经系统、免疫系统、微环境内稳态的实时在体研究。在IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, Laser Physics Letters, Journal of Biomedical Optics等期刊上发表或合作发表SCI收录论文6篇、EI收录论文5篇,已获批中国专利1项。

Jianhua Chen received his Master's degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University on the topic of ultra-high speed optical fiber transmission and signal processing. His current research focuses on developing data acquisition and imaging schemes for AR/OR-Photoacoustic medical devices.

Lin, Riqiang (林日强), Assistant Professor   

Riqiang Lin received his M.E. in  Mechanical Engineering and Automation from Shen Zhen  University in 2011. His research interests are mechanical  designing and mechatronics. His current research focuses  on OR/AR-Photoacoustic Microscopy system design.

Chen, Jingqin (陈敬钦), Research Assistant  



Jingqin Chen received his Master's degree from South China Normal University in 2014 in Biophysics. During the M.D. training, his research project was “the study of green synthesis of reduced graphene oxide for delivering and photothermally controlling anti-cancer drug release” and he published two papers in Nanoscale Research Letters and Biomaterials respectively, achieving the honor of “the third master's top 10 academic papers”. His previous research has been mainly focused on the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials and nanomedical imaging probethe study of in vitro and in vivo toxicity of nanomaterials and tumor treatment. 

陈敬钦2014年毕业于华南师范大学生物物理专业,获硕士学位。攻读硕士学位期间,主要研究课题是氧化石墨烯的绿色还原及其传送和光热调控释放抗癌药物的研究,分别在《Nanoscale Research Letters 》和《Biomaterials》发表了一篇文章,并以此获得校第三届硕士十佳学术论文荣誉。目前的主要研究方向是纳米材料和纳米医学成像探针的合成与表征、纳米材料的肿瘤细胞和在体毒性和治疗的研究。

Guo, Yuqi (郭育奇), Research Assistant  


Guo Yuqi received his Master's degree from Jilin University in 2014 in Biochemistry and molecular biology. During his M.D. training, He was focus on exploring drug resistant molecular mechanism of clinical bacteria. He is interested in using some statistic methods to find meaningful characters. Yuqi is now focus on finding new fluorescent protein(FP) and screening mutated FPs. FPs with better qualities and characters will be applied to improve photoacoustic imaging. He works as a research assistant at SIAT in Dr. Chu lab.

Zhang, Chuqiu (张楚秋), Research Assistant  


Zhang Chuqiu received her Master's degree of Microbiology from Jinan University in 2015. During the Msc. training, she focused her research on the 'Construction and expression of plasmid vector in yeasts and Escherichia Coli and enhanced enzymatic hydrolysis of sugarcane bagasse hemicellulose using recombinant enzyme', and got two papers pulished in 'Industrial crops and products' and 'Journal of Lanzhou University', respectively. Currently, her research interests mainly center on the mutation screening and application of fluorescent protein.


张楚秋2015年毕业于暨南大学微生物专业,获硕士学位。攻读硕士学位期间,主要研究课题是在酵母和大肠杆菌中重组表达质粒载体,并使用重组表达的酶提高半纤维素酶法水解的效率,分别在《Industrial crops and products》和《兰州大学学报》发表了文章。目前的主要研究方向是荧光蛋白的突变筛选及其应用
